Islamabad, Mar 17 2025: Pakistan is making significant strides in the technology sector, with PM Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering IT growth and increasing exports to $25 billion with US Tech Firm Afiniti Delegation .
During a meeting with a delegation led by Jerome Kapelus, CEO of the American multinational IT company Afiniti Information System, the PM highlighted Pakistan’s potential to compete in the global market, emphasizing that all necessary facilities were being provided to IT companies to support their expansion.
The delegation praised the expertise of Pakistani IT professionals, with Kapelus noting that over 1,000 highly skilled professionals were already contributing to Afiniti’s success in the country.

The Prime Minister encouraged Afiniti to deepen its investment in Pakistan by establishing a world-class call center to serve both local and international clients. He also assured that he was personally overseeing programs aimed at equipping the country’s youth with advanced technological skills.
Particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and IT. Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja and senior government officials were also present at the meeting, where discussions centered on harnessing Pakistan’s skilled workforce to further strengthen the country’s tech ecosystem.
Meanwhile, US Tech Firm Afiniti delegation also met with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division to discuss expanding business operations, recruitment, and taxation policies. Kapelus highlighted that 80% of Afiniti’s operational support team is based in Pakistan, spanning Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

He emphasized that IT and agriculture were two critical sectors for economic growth, given that much of their value generation remains within the country.

The Finance Minister also shared ongoing taxation reforms, including the digitalization of the tax system and efforts to simplify tax returns, particularly for salaried individuals. He assured that the government was working towards broadening the tax base while reducing the burden on overtaxed sectors like manufacturing.
Additionally, the Finance Minister briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s latest initiative the Pakistan Crypto Council aimed at integrating blockchain technology and digital assets into the country’s financial landscape.
He highlighted that this regulatory framework would help Pakistan stay aligned with global advancements in digital finance. The discussions concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued collaboration.
The government assured Afiniti of its full support in expanding its operations, while the delegation expressed confidence in Pakistan’s IT potential.
With policies focused on fostering investment, training youth in emerging technologies, and streamlining tax regulations, Pakistan is poised to accelerate its growth in the global IT market.
