Islamabad, May 18, 2025: The United States has issued a strong caution to Indian nationals who overstay their visas, stressing that such violations could lead to deportation and a permanent travel ban.

The U.S. Embassy in India delivered the message as immigration enforcement intensifies nationwide, with Indian citizens now under sharper scrutiny amid rising illegal stay cases.

In an official statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the U.S. Embassy in India stated, “If you remain in the United States beyond your authorized period of stay, you could be deported and could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States in the future.”

The embassy underlined that violating U.S. immigration laws, including overstaying visas, would bring serious legal consequences.

This advisory aligns with the broader immigration crackdown under former President Trump’s legacy policies, many of which continue under current enforcement mechanisms.

Immigration authorities have increased operations aimed at identifying and removing undocumented residents, and Indian visa overstayers are increasingly in focus.

Estimates reveal that over 7.25 million Indian nationals are currently residing illegally in the U.S., with the figure steadily climbing.

This demographic now represents one of the fastest-growing groups of undocumented immigrants in the country.

Adding to the complexity is a notable surge in asylum applications.

In 2023 alone, over 51,000 Indian citizens applied for asylum in the U.S., marking a staggering 470% increase compared to five years ago. Applicants often cite economic challenges, political instability, or personal threats as driving forces behind their decisions to seek refuge.
