Islamabad, Jan 26: Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Vice-Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), underscored the critical role of translations in promoting Islamic values, traditions, and culture during the closing ceremony of a five-day training workshop titled “Translation as a Science” at the university. He emphasized that translation is a key tool for intellectual progress and serves as a gateway to understanding different languages and civilizations, advocating for the expansion of translation efforts in Pakistan.

Dr. Mahmood stressed that while promoting Islamic values has long been an aspiration, it is now essential to take concrete steps towards achieving this goal. He highlighted the influential role of religious scholars, noting that their words carry significant weight in society and that they should lead the charge in advancing Islamic teachings and contributing to societal reform.

During the event, Dr. Mahmood expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ghulam Ali, Director of the Center for Languages and Translation Studies, and Fakhruddin Akhunzada, Executive Director of the Forum for Language Initiatives, for organizing the workshop. He congratulated them on its success and thanked the participants for their engagement.

The workshop, organized by AIOU’s Center for Languages and Translation Studies in collaboration with the Forum for Language Initiatives, offered translation training to participants from 12 different languages. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the training, noting that it helped them grasp the principles and techniques of translation in a short time. Many participants requested that such workshops continue in the future to further enhance their skills.

Dr. Ghulam Ali and Fakhruddin Akhunzada both emphasized the importance of technological tools in translation and maintaining neutrality throughout the process. They also praised the Vice-Chancellor’s support in making the workshop a success. Akhunzada also shared his commitment to continuing these collaborative events with AIOU.

The closing ceremony was attended by AIOU’s Registrar, Raja Umar Younis, along with university officers and faculty members. The event highlighted the significance of translation in fostering cross-cultural understanding and advancing the values of Islam in the modern world.
