Islamabad, May 12, 2025: Pakistan has named its large-scale military response to recent Indian airstrikes as Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.
The title was drawn from a Quranic phrase found on the remains of a mosque damaged in Muzaffarabad during the Indian attack on May 7.
According to journalist Imtiaz Awan of Aaj News, the Indian air raid on the night of May 6–7 caused serious destruction to a local mosque.
On the mosque’s mihrab—the niche indicating the direction of prayer—were the concluding words of Surah As-Saff (61:4): “Bunyan-un-Marsoos”, which means “a solid structure” or “a wall strengthened with lead.”
This phrase, often interpreted as a symbol of unity and discipline in the face of adversity, inspired Pakistan’s military to adopt it as the name of its retaliation.
Launched on May 10, 2025, the operation came after a series of Indian drone and missile strikes, some of which targeted civilian areas and religious sites.
Pakistan’s response was swift and forceful. Within 12 hours of the first Fateh missile being launched, India accepted a ceasefire.
Officials in New Delhi have acknowledged that 26 of their military locations were struck, including airbases and ammunition depots.

Pakistani military authorities said the operation highlighted the country’s preparedness and resolve. They described it not only as a strategic success but also as a moral and symbolic stand against aggression.
The term Bunyan-un-Marsoos has deeper roots in Pakistan’s religious and ideological landscape.
The phrase was often referenced by late Islamic scholar Dr. Israr Ahmed to describe committed believers standing united in the cause of justice.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Sunday will be observed as Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude) to mark the success of the military operation.
Officials said the naming of the campaign was meant to reflect Pakistan’s national unity, strength of faith, and resilience under pressure—qualities that, they believe, fortified the nation’s defence.
