ISLAMBAD JULY29: Major Chinese phone manufacturer Vivo has said that it would begin producing mixed reality (MR) headsets in 2025. This follows the company’s discussion at the recent Imaging Festival in China about the direction of phone cameras.
After stating earlier this year that MR is the upcoming great thing in mobile technology, Vivo’s vice president Hu Baishan has officially revealed the company’s plans to release its first MR headgear.
Vivo is hardly a newcomer to the world of designer eyewear. In 2019, they released its first AR glasses, which required a 5G phone in order to function.
Like Apple’s newly released Vision Pro headset, we think their new MR glasses will function better and stand alone. We’ll have to wait and see, though. In any case, based on Vivo’s typical price points, their initial MR headset shouldn’t cost nearly as much as Apple’s $3,499 substitute.
Vivo is doing well in selling phones in China, with almost 20% of the market. Their high-end phones are also popular. This success is giving them the power to try new things, like making smart glasses.
Other big phone companies like Huawei and Oppo are also said to be working on similar glasses, but nothing is official yet.
