Islamabad, Mar 07, 2025: Waqar Younis has seemingly responded to Mohammad Hafeez’s remarks about the 1990s cricket greats, sharing a cryptic post on social media in defense of the era’s players.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the former captain shared an old picture alongside Wasim Akram, highlighting their combined bowling records.
The legendary pacer captioned it in bold, “90’s KA LONDA (Boys from the 90s),” appearing to suggest that their performances spoke for themselves amid ongoing criticism.
Hafeez, who represented Pakistan in all three formats, recently questioned the legacy of the 1990s cricket icons while analyzing Pakistan’s early exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy.
He argued that despite having legendary players like Akram, Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan failed to secure another ICC trophy after the 1992 World Cup.
The former captain pointed out that while he admired the players of that era, they failed to win key tournaments, including the World Cups of 1996, 1999, and 2003.
His remarks have reignited debate about Pakistan cricket’s ability to deliver on the global stage.
With Pakistan struggling in the Champions Trophy 2025 on home soil, discussions surrounding the team’s past performances and legacy have intensified.
Many of the strongest critiques have come from former cricketers of the 1990s, who now serve as commentators and analysts, shaping public discourse on the team’s progress.
