Former Pakistani fast bowler, Wasim Akram, has explained why he has never pursued roles as the head coach or chief selector of the national team.
While speaking on a local sports program, the legendary pacer addressed a query regarding his reluctance to take on a coaching role.
The left-arm pacer pointed to the harsh criticism faced by former players, including Waqar Younis, during their tenures, as a key reason for his decision.
Wasim Akram remarked that Pakistani coaches often experience undue disrespect and stated that he would not be able to tolerate such treatment.
Despite his reservations, the legendary pacer affirmed his commitment to supporting Pakistan cricket in a voluntary capacity.
The King of Swing expressed willingness to assist in training camps and tournaments without seeking financial compensation.
He also highlighted personal priorities, such as spending time with his family which influenced his decision to refrain from a full-time coaching role.
Pakistan has previously appointed former cricketers like Javed Miandad, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Waqar Younis as head coach. Currently, Aqib Javed is serving as the interim head coach.
Under the guidance of Javed, Pakistan struggled in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Despite hosting the event, they failed to progress past the group stage.
