Islamabad, 22 March 2025: Mohammad Rizwan unintentionally damaged fast bowler Naseem Shah’s phone during a practice match at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) ground.
The national squad is currently preparing for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand.
A viral video of the incident captured Rizwan striking a lofted six, which sent the ball soaring towards the dressing room. Unfortunately, the ball hit Naseem’s phone, which was resting on a chair.
The pacer rushed to inspect the damage, but his reaction suggested the device was beyond repair.
While the squad is focused on training, injuries have forced changes to Pakistan’s ODI lineup. Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub have been ruled out due to fitness concerns.
In their absence, Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Wasim Jr. have been recalled, while Akif Javed is set to earn his maiden international cap.
The ODI squad is scheduled to depart for New Zealand on March 23, with the series taking place from March 29 to April 5.
Meanwhile, Pakistan is also engaged in a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, where the hosts currently lead 2-1.
After suffering losses in the first two games, Pakistan bounced back with a dominant victory in the third T20I.
New Zealand, batting first, posted 204 all out, largely due to Mark Chapman’s explosive 94-run innings. However, Pakistan responded in emphatic fashion, chasing the target with four overs to spare.
Hasan Nawaz stole the spotlight by smashing a record-breaking century, surpassing Babar Azam’s mark for the fastest T20I hundred by a Pakistani batsman.
Babar had set the record in 2021 with a 49-ball century against South Africa.
Pakistan will now look to level the series in the fourth T20I, scheduled at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
