Former captain Rashid Latif has suggested that cricketers from the 1990s, particularly the 1992 World Cup-winning squad, should be kept away from Pakistan cricket.
Speaking to the media, the former wicket-keeper batter expressed concerns over the inability of the Men in Green to consistently win ICC titles.
He argued that players from the 90s had significantly influenced the team over the years and that their continued involvement might be hindering progress.
Referring to 17-year gap between World Cup victories, Latif stated that the dominance of 90s cricketers had not allowed the team to move forward.
He further emphasized that keeping them away from both management and the squad could motivate the Green Shirts to perform better.
Latif noted that these former players had served Pakistan cricket for a long time and suggested that it was time for them to step aside.
His remarks came just days after Pakistan, the defending champions, were eliminated from the Champions Trophy 2025 within five days of the tournament.
The Mohammad Rizwan-led side began their title defense against New Zealand in Karachi on February 19, where they faced a 60-run defeat.
They were then outplayed by arch-rivals India, losing by six wickets following a brilliant century from Virat Kohli at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Their final group-stage match against Bangladesh was abandoned without a ball being bowled, leaving them with just one point from three matches.
