The World Bank will provide more than $2 billion in loans to Pakistan during the current fiscal year, according to documents from the Economic Affairs Division (EAD).

The financing will be extended through the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), targeting agriculture, energy, water, finance, revenue, governance, and social services.

At present, 57 World Bank–funded projects worth $16.6 billion are underway across the country. These projects cover communication, rural and urban development, human capital investment, and governance reforms. In addition, the bank has pledged another $8.6 billion for projects in the pipeline.

Over the last seven years, Pakistan has received $11.84 billion in loans from the World Bank. The energy sector received the largest share, amounting to $1.96 billion, aimed at supporting generation, transmission, and distribution improvements.

Annual loan disbursements have shown consistent flows, with $2.24 billion in 2023-24, $2.12 billion in 2022-23, $1.80 billion in 2024-25, and $1.59 billion in 2021-22, according to official figures.

In January 2025, the World Bank approved a landmark 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) worth $20 billion for Pakistan, covering the period 2025–2035. The program focuses on tackling child stunting, reducing learning poverty, combating climate challenges, expanding access to clean energy, and strengthening fiscal management.

The World Bank currently has an overall portfolio of about $17 billion in Pakistan, spanning 106 active projects.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank, has also announced plans to invest $2 billion annually in Pakistan over the next decade. This investment will be directed toward large-scale infrastructure, including energy, water, finance, and digital technology projects, in line with the CPF’s priorities.
