LAHORE, May 27, 2025: After an audit report for the year 2023-24 revealed that weapons and ammunition worth millions have gone missing from Punjab Police armories across multiple districts, the provincial home secretary has taken urgent notice of the situation.

According to the audit report, rifles given to sentries in Lahore’s central jail have also disappeared. The home secretary has formed a committee, under additional IG special branch, to investigate the matter and submit a report in the next 10 days.

A statement issued by the home department said that these weapons and ammunitions are provided directly to the police departments, and the incident is entirely the Police department’s responsibility.

Earlier, media reports had quoted the figure of Rs 240 million, as the value of the arms and ammunition that has reportedly gone missing from police departments in 12 districts of the province. Some reports say that out of these weapons valuing Rs 80 million have gone missing from two police offices in the provincial capital Lahore, and an equal amount has gone missing from the office of District Police Officer (DPO) Muzaffargarh.

Apart from these two major reported losses, similar incidents have been reported from Sialkot, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Okara, Multan and Sahiwal.
