Islamabad, 17 Apr 2025: Hailstorm Alert for Islamabad has been issued once again by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), just a day after a severe hailstorm unexpectedly struck the capital, causing widespread damage.

While the intensity of the upcoming weather is projected to be less fierce, officials are urging residents to stay cautious as another round of disruptive conditions looms.

Another Round of Wind and Hail Likely

According to a PMD representative, Islamabad could witness strong gusty winds, localized dust storms, and the possibility of fresh hail showers within the next 24 hours.

Although this new weather system is expected to be milder than the recent storm, it still carries enough potential to disrupt daily routines and property if precautions are not taken.

“The next spell won’t be as intense as what we saw on Wednesday,” the official noted. “Still, residents should remain prepared as such atmospheric instability can rapidly shift in strength.”

Last Storm Left Widespread Damage

The recent hailstorm, which struck with little warning, caught many off guard. Residents across numerous city sectors reported extensive damage, particularly to vehicles, rooftops, and windowpanes. Several neighborhoods resembled a wintry landscape, with roads, lawns, and trees coated in ice.

One of the most significant impacts was seen at the Faisal Mosque, where a portion of the building sustained visible damage due to the force of hail.

The rare intensity of the storm was especially surprising given the ongoing heatwave gripping the region.

Unusual Weather Triggers

Meteorological experts believe that this erratic weather behavior stemmed from a dramatic atmospheric shift  namely, a sharp temperature drop colliding with warm air masses.

This sudden clash of hot and cold systems created the perfect conditions for hail to form over the city.

Such extreme contrasts in weather during transitional seasons are becoming more frequent, with climate variability making it harder to predict and manage localized phenomena.

Precautions and Safety Measures

Given the likelihood of more adverse conditions, authorities have advised citizens to take essential precautions.

The most critical recommendation is to avoid parking vehicles outdoors, particularly under trees or in open lots where hailstones could cause damage.

Additionally, pedestrians are advised to limit unnecessary travel during high-risk hours and to seek shelter during heavy winds or precipitation.
