Islamabad, Nov 1: England were left spinning after Gudakesh Motie claimed four for 41 as the West Indies were set a target of 210 to win the series opening ODI in Antigua.
A top four, well a top five for one of four debutant batsmen all failing between 17 and 27
before contributing to their own downfall, a scenario that came in tricky conditions
when scoring had become tough, and balls were sticking in the pitch.
Liam Livingstone, standing in as captain for the injured Jos Buttler in this three-match series,
and Sam Curran steadied the ship with a partnership of 72 in 84 balls before Gudakesh Motie closed the show.
From 165 for four, when Livingstone can only prod back to the slow left-armer for 48 off 49 balls
England folded to 209 all out in 45:1. Cox was also joined by Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton and John Turner were awarded with their ODI debuts,
but England struggled to capitalize when they chose to bat as all the top six gave starts but none of them converted into big scores.
Salt matched Jacks, the former scoring two fours in an over off Matthew Forde
but failed to rotate the strike against Jayden Seales, who went for only eight in his five-over spell.
He also caught both English openers in dream positions with both balls going to false shots, Alzarri Joseph running back from mid-off to settle under a skier off Salt for 18,
and Motie pulling off a good second effort when Jacks skied one straight up in the air.
He made 12 out of his first 16 balls but took time getting into the game and could manage
only five more from the next 14 before getting impatient from the 31st ball, he skied to Keacy Carty.
Joseph got the better of Jacob Bethell, who was looking good after hitting two pulls and then a planned charge down to hit three fours in an over,
See at 93 for four in the 21st over, Livingstone and Curran unlike Roy settled for low-risk accumulation.
Wily off-spinner Roston Chase did not yield a boundary until
the ninth over when Livingstone targeted him by hitting his over the bowler’s head for a six.
while getting in a tangle and poking to short midwicket Shimron Hetmyer spilled a low chance.
for the spinner, by a hint of turn and driven a return catch to Gudakesh Motie who then dominated England.
Eight came via a Mousley slog before Overton found himself cudgelled on the pad, missing a sweep, the not out decision on appeal.
Motie had his fourth when Sam Curran, on 27,
gave a simple chance to long-on after a clip across the line.
Adil Rashid played his wristy shots to perfection and got couple of fours,
to take England past 200 but the last man was Josef to mid-ON.
