WhatsApp is introducing a new reminder notification feature to help users stay on top of unread messages. Currently available to beta testers in the latest Android 2.24.25.29 update, this feature sends reminders for unread messages from frequently interacted contacts. The app uses an internal algorithm to identify these contacts, ensuring that important messages don’t go unnoticed.
When a user leaves a message unread from a frequently interacted contact, WhatsApp will send a reminder notification.
The algorithm works only within the current app installation, meaning it must recalculate interactions if the app is reinstalled, as it does not store data in backups or on the server.
The feature aims to prevent overwhelming users with notifications, ensuring they are timely and relevant.
Beta testers currently have access to it, and WhatsApp will roll it out to more users in the coming days.
