Islamabad, Feb 12: WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to assign custom labels to themselves in group chats. This feature, which has been spotted in the latest beta build for Android, is aimed at helping users clearly define their roles or identities within group conversations.

Here’s how it works:
- Users can set a custom label for themselves within each group they are part of.
- The label will be visible to all current and future members of the group but will not appear outside the group.
- Once set, the label stays in place unless the user chooses to change it, even if the app is reset or reinstalled.
- WhatsApp offers some preset label suggestions like “Jordan’s parent,” “coach,” or “chairperson.” However, users can create their own labels to suit the group dynamic.
This feature is designed to make group chats more organized and help members identify each other’s roles easily. As for when this feature will be available to all users, there’s no specific timeline yet. WhatsApp typically rolls out features gradually, so it could take weeks or even months before it’s accessible to everyone. For now, only users who are part of the beta testing program can explore and provide feedback on this new feature.
