WhatsApp has introduced a new AI feature called Writing Help in its latest iOS TestFlight beta, giving users smarter ways to polish their chats. The tool suggests replies based on the tone a user selects, making it easier to send clear, professional, or even funny messages.

According to WABetaInfo, the option appears when Private Processing is turned on in the app’s settings. Once enabled, users will see the sticker icon replaced with a pen symbol in the chat bar after typing a short phrase. Tapping this pen allows them to request instant suggestions for structure, tone, or grammar improvements before sending a message.

The feature provides at least three alternative phrasings, with five tone choices:

  • Rephrase: Improves clarity without changing meaning
  • Professional: More formal wording for serious chats
  • Funny: Adds humor or lightness
  • Supportive: Softens the tone with encouragement
  • Proofread: Corrects spelling and grammar

Users can either keep their original text or swap it with one of the AI-generated suggestions. Importantly, the recipient won’t know if Writing Help was used.

Meta explained that the tool is powered by its Private Processing system, which runs locally and keeps conversations encrypted. The company also said messages are processed anonymously, without scanning chat history. The feature is off by default and must be activated manually.

Though there’s no timeline for a public release, Meta’s recent focus on expanding AI tools suggests it may be rolled out widely soon.
