Islamabad, Oct 24: A major WhatsApp Update contact management system has been implemented, resolving a number of frequent issues.
Contacts were previously linked to the phone on which the app was installed, which might cause problems in the event that a phone was misplaced, or contacts weren’t backed up. Users who managed several accounts with various contact lists on the same device or shared a phone also encountered issues with this configuration.
WhatsApp Update has now included a built-in contact manager to address these issues. Users can now keep their contacts directly within the app thanks to this new feature, which guarantees that they will always be safe and accessible even when moving devices.
Users can save contacts on WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop for Windows in the initial version of this update. The parent company of WhatsApp, Meta, intends to extend similar functionality to further connected devices in the future, simplifying contact management.
Additionally, WhatsApp is implementing Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS), a new privacy-focused technology, to safely store contacts. All stored contact information, including names and phone numbers, is encrypted by IPLS to guarantee that only the user may access it.
Users will be able to create an account with this new functionality without having to associate it with a phone number. The user experience will be further enhanced by giving users even more privacy and control over how they use the app by implementing a username-based login.
