Authorities in the United States are continuing their search for the person responsible for the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.

The incident, which occurred while Kirk addressed a crowd of roughly 3,000 people, has drawn condemnation from across the political spectrum and strong reactions from former President Donald Trump.

The Utah Department of Public Safety confirmed that the shooting remains an active investigation and that authorities are collaborating with the FBI and local law enforcement. Two individuals were briefly detained but later released.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the attack as a “political assassination,” though officials have not yet confirmed the shooter’s motive or identity. Beau Mason, commissioner of the state’s public safety department, said investigators are reviewing security camera footage showing a suspect in dark clothing who may have fired from a rooftop.

In a video statement from the Oval Office, Trump vowed that his administration would pursue those responsible. “My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it,” he said.
