Islamabad, Aug 7, 2025; Punjab rainfall alert issued as widespread showers are expected to continue across multiple districts over the next 24 hours. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of the sixth monsoon spell, likely to last until August 7, urging residents and local administrations to stay vigilant.
Rivers Under Control, But Caution Advised
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that although low-level flooding is occurring at Tarbela, water flows at Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa remain within normal limits. Similarly, the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers are currently stable.
Hill torrents and streams feeding into these rivers also show no alarming activity. As of now, Tarbela Dam is at 95% capacity, while Mangla Dam has reached 62%—figures that demand cautious monitoring in case of further rain.
Rainfall-Related Incidents on the Rise
Tragically, this year’s monsoon season has already claimed 164 lives across Punjab, according to PDMA. In just the last 24 hours, three injuries were reported due to rain-related accidents. The authority has advised the public to avoid flood-prone and low-lying areas, especially during peak rainfall hours.
Sutlej River Discharge Rising Fast
The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of NDMA has sounded the alarm for a potential flood scenario in River Sutlej. On August 5, water discharge at Ferozepur (Ganda Singh Wala) spiked from 28,657 to 33,653 cusecs in just one hour.

The alert follows persistent monsoon currents impacting upper and central Pakistan, coupled with a westerly trough over the northern region. This weather pattern may bring heavy to very heavy rainfall until August 7, increasing pressure on downstream river systems.
