Microsoft is testing a new feature in Windows 11 that allows users to resume Android app activity directly on their computer. This functionality is currently being rolled out gradually to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels, with Spotify being the first supported app.

How the Feature Works
The feature is designed to let users pick up right where they left off on their phone. For example, if someone starts playing a song on the Spotify mobile app, Windows 11 will display a “Resume from your phone” notification. The notification comes with the Spotify icon and a “Continue on this PC” option.

When selected, Windows will either open the Spotify desktop app (if already installed) or prompt the user to download it, allowing seamless continuation of music playback.
This capability relies on Microsoft’s Phone Link integration, which requires users to connect their Android device to their PC. Once linked, the system monitors supported app activity and generates handoff-style prompts in the Windows 11 notification center.

Comparison with Apple’s Handoff
Microsoft’s feature draws clear parallels to Apple’s Handoff, which allows macOS and iOS users to move between devices while continuing their activities. However, while Apple supports a wide range of apps and workflows, Microsoft’s current rollout is limited to Spotify only and does not yet extend to other apps or web sessions.

What’s Next?
Although still in its early stages, this feature signals Microsoft’s efforts to strengthen cross-device continuity. If expanded to more apps, it could make Windows 11 and Android devices work together more seamlessly—similar to the ecosystem advantages Apple users enjoy today.
