Islamabad, 18 Apr 2025: Windscreen Prices Surge and Massive Hailstorm Damage A sudden and intense hailstorm recently swept across Islamabad and Rawalpindi, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Windscreen Prices Surge and Massive Hailstorm Damage have become buzzwords in local auto markets, as residents assess the aftermath of this severe weather episode.

The storm, which arrived with barely any forewarning, struck both twin cities hard pelting vehicles with ice chunks that shattered windshields, cracked windows, and left numerous cars with dented hoods and broken side mirrors.

As car owners rushed to repair their damaged vehicles, auto markets in areas like Rawalpindi’s Saddar and Islamabad’s G-8 sector quickly found themselves overwhelmed.

Shop owners reported that their inventories of standard windshields were depleted within hours of the storm. Customers hunting for replacements were met with inflated prices and long waiting times.

Before the storm, a regular front windshield was priced around Rs. 15,000. Now, the same item is being offered when available for a staggering Rs. 35,000 or more.

Smaller items like rearview mirrors and side window glass, which previously cost between Rs. 100 to Rs. 200, are now being sold for Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,000.

This sudden price hike has sparked frustration among consumers and concern among industry insiders.

Market vendors explained that the surge in demand has overwhelmed their usual supply chains. Many suppliers are unable to restock quickly due to logistical bottlenecks, and several distributors have stopped taking new orders altogether until the current backlog is cleared.

Retailers are scrambling to secure inventory while managing agitated customers facing urgent repair needs.

Traders noted that the only types of windshields still available in the market are for high-end or luxury vehicles. Even so, their prices have jumped significantly, with an increase ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 over pre-storm rates.

Industry experts warn that unless supplies normalize soon, the pricing situation may worsen, especially if another round of unpredictable weather hits the region.
