Islamabad, Jan 1: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Education Department has extended winter vacations in all public and private schools due to harsh weather conditions. According to a notification issued on Tuesday, schools will now remain closed until January 4, 2025, and classes will resume on February 6, instead of the previously announced date of February 2.
The decision was made to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff, as the severe cold wave has significantly impacted commuting and daily activities. The department stated that the extension aims to address the challenges posed by the extreme weather.
This follows a similar announcement by the Education Department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which extended winter vacations for schools in the province. KP schools in plain areas, originally scheduled to reopen on January 1, will now resume classes on January 7.
