A 12-year-old boy was severely injured after a workshop owner allegedly set him on fire in Gulberg Model Colony, police said on Thursday.
The child, identified as Faizan, was shifted to a hospital in critical condition after sustaining extensive burn injuries.
Police officials said the incident came to light after DIG Operations took notice. Gulberg SHO Taimoor Abbas Khan later traced and arrested the suspect, Babar, who had reportedly fled after the incident. A case has been registered against him on the complaint of the victim’s father, Shah Muhammad.
According to initial police inquiries, Faizan had been working at the workshop when petrol from a vehicle’s carburetor accidentally spilled on him, soaking his clothes. When he informed the workshop owner, the latter allegedly lit a matchstick and threw it at the boy, causing him to catch fire.
