Islamabad, July 24: World Bank Regional Vice President for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MENAAP), Ousmane Dione, has lauded Pakistan’s ongoing macroeconomic recovery and commended the government for steering the country toward financial stability and sustainable growth.

According to news reports , Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed gratitude to World Bank President Ajay Banga and former Pakistan Country Director Najy Benhassine for their instrumental role in shaping the CPF, which he said aligns with Pakistan’s national development priorities—particularly in the fields of energy, human capital, climate change, and governance reforms.
The prime minister also acknowledged the World Bank’s support following the catastrophic floods of 2022, which enabled immediate relief and reconstruction efforts. Additionally, he welcomed the Bank’s principled stance on Pakistan’s position regarding India’s unilateral actions affecting international treaties such as the Indus Waters Treaty.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to international law and regional peace, PM Shehbaz emphasized that all disputes should be resolved through dialogue.
Ousmane Dione, in turn, thanked the prime minister for the warm hospitality and reiterated the World Bank’s resolve to strengthen collaboration with Pakistan in key economic sectors. He praised the government’s reform-driven agenda, highlighting PM Shehbaz’s leadership in restoring investor confidence and fostering inclusive economic development.
