Islamabad 25 July: World Leaders have reacted positively to Macron’s pledge to recognize Palestine, which has sparked a global debate on X and in the media. The US, European Union has so far not issued an institutional declaration regarding Macron’s move.
However, notable EU member states—including Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia—have already recognized Palestine, suggesting growing intra-EU support. The UN conference, rescheduled for late July 2025, aims to outline a roadmap for Palestinian statehood, but challenges include Israel’s opposition, the Palestinian Authority’s limited control, and its domestic unpopularity.
Meanwhile Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry praised the move as “historic,” reaffirming “the international community’s consensus on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.”
Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, in an Arabic-language post on X, expressed hope that the decision would “garner international support for further recognition of the Palestinian state based on the two-state solution.”

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (@jonasgahrstore, 01:15 PKT, July 25, 2025) praised France’s move: “France’s decision to recognize Palestine is a bold step toward justice and a two-state solution. Norway, having recognized Palestine in 2024, supports this momentum for peace.” This aligns with Norway’s earlier recognition alongside Spain and Ireland.
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly (@melaniejoly, 01:22 PKT, July 25, 2025) adopted a cautious tone: “Canada supports a two-state solution but believes recognition must be part of negotiations ensuring Israel’s security. We welcome France’s intent but urge coordination with allies.” This reflects Canada’s hesitancy, consistent with its diplomatic stance.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar (@gideonsaar, 01:30 PKT, July 25, 2025) condemned the decision, stating: “France’s recognition of ‘Palestine’ undermines peace by rewarding terrorism and ignoring Israel’s security. This is a misguided move that fuels conflict.” Israel’s opposition echoes previous rebukes of Macron’s initiatives.
