Islamabad, 8 May, 2025: Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on Friday that its official X account had been hacked, after a post appeared requesting additional foreign loans amid intensifying tensions with India.

The ministry stated that it did not publish any such post.

Moreover, it is working to disable the account to prevent any further unauthorized activity.

“We are working to have the Twitter (X) switched off,” an official told Reuters, adding, “We did not tweet the content in question.”

A spokesperson for the ministry further stated, “The account of the Ministry of Economic Affairs on social media platform X was hacked late last night. Any post currently appearing on the account is not connected to the ministry.”

Tensions between the two countries escalated into military conflict on Wednesday when India launched strikes on multiple sites within Pakistan.

In retaliation, Pakistan claims it has shot down five Indian fighter jets and 29 Harop drones launched from Indian territory.

In addition to armed exchanges, both nations have accused each other of carrying out cyberattacks targeting critical digital infrastructure.

The Cabinet Division had issued a security advisory to all government divisions, warning of a targeted phishing campaign aimed at Pakistani officials.
