Islamabad – May 3, 2025: Real Madrid is preparing for a new era as former player Xabi Alonso is expected to take charge of the team next season.
Club president Florentino Pérez has reportedly been in close contact with Alonso in recent weeks, discussing key footballing decisions.
These conversations have already led to some confirmed moves—most notably, the decision not to extend Lucas Vázquez’s contract.
According to Spanish outlet OKDiario, Lucas Vázquez will not be offered a new deal and is set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the current season.

The 33-year-old, who has served as the club’s third captain, will play his final match at the Santiago Bernabéu on May 25. His exit will officially follow the conclusion of the Club World Cup.
Alonso reportedly does not see Vázquez in his plans, with Carvajal and younger or high-profile alternatives ahead of him.
While the Galician veteran has been praised for his professionalism and versatility, recent performances have raised concerns within the club.
Lucas Vázquez, who joined Real Madrid’s academy before a brief stint at Espanyol, returned to the capital and carved out a respected role over the years.

He adapted to various roles across the pitch—initially in attack and later as a full-back—gaining the trust of multiple managers with his commitment and consistency.
Despite never being in the spotlight, he has been part of one of the most successful chapters in the club’s history.
His trophy haul includes five Champions League titles, four Club World Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and four Spanish Super Cups.
Though leaving Real Madrid, Vázquez is expected to continue his career elsewhere rather than retire.
