Islamabad, Aug 29: Younis Khan, the former captain of Pakistani cricket, has encouraged Jay Shah, the recently appointed chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), to show true sportsmanship by guaranteeing India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan.
Younis greeted Shah cordially and expressed hope that his leadership would bring in a new era for the sport on a worldwide scale. Younis underscored the need of reciprocal esteem and collaboration among cricketing nations. “Cricket has a real chance to flourish with Jay Shah at the helm,” he said.It is imperative that the head of the International Cricket Council (ICC) takes steps to facilitate India’s participation in Pakistan and Pakistan’s visit to India. This is the essence of good sportsmanship.
Considering Pakistan’s recent setbacks, which included a crushing 10-wicket loss to Bangladesh in the opening Test of a two-match series, Younis challenged the players to play with newfound vigor. Playing at home is invariably stressful. Our players need to become adept at thriving in it. It’s crucial to raise morale,” he said.
Younis, who helped Pakistan win the 2009 T20 World Cup, also responded to comments made by Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who voiced concerns about what he saw as a dearth of quality in domestic cricket. Displeased with this evaluation, Younis restated his conviction on the caliber of quality in Pakistan’s local circuit. “I don’t know why the chairman of the PCB believes there is no talent. He said, “There is so much potential in our domestic cricket.”
