KARACHI, July 10: Pakistan grieves the death Veteran journalist Zubeida Mustafa passed away on Wednesday in Karachi at 84, the family sources confirmed.

Zubeida was a trailblazer in Pakistani journalism and established herself best through her 30 years of association with Dawn newspaper in which she worked as an assistant editor between 1975 and 2008. She was the first woman to take up this position and after that she became the first Pakistani female journalist to win the coveted International Women media foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 2012.

Zubeida was born in India in 1941, when she was young, she moved to Pakistan. Later, she graduated in international relations in the University of Karachi and worked as a research officer in the 1960s in Pakistan Institute of International Affairs.

People made tributes to her all over the nation when the news of her death was announced. The Karachi Press Club recalled her as a genuine legend and elder of the Pakistani journalism whose undying devotion to truth and social justice became an example to succeeding generations of journalists, particularly women.

The press club said, the journalist was an institution, as her work on education, health, and social problems represented the empathy and ethical approach she had.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan also honors her remembering that she was a champion of social, cultural and language rights like few other people and the oppressed people were never without her.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah mourned her demise saying that she was a great journalist and her services would be long remembered.

In her vagueness, Zubeida Mustafa still remains an inspiration. Her upholding performance is marked with excellence in character, brilliance, and social conscience in the field of journalism.
