Islamabad, Sep 21: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has conducted inspections of food establishments along the Lahore-Faisalabad Motorway to ensure that commuters are provided with healthy and high-quality food options.
Under the leadership of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, food safety teams, spearheaded by Additional Director General (Operations) Sardar Asif Dogar, inspected 81 establishments, including restaurants, tuck shops, and cafes.
The operation resulted in significant action: 10 prominent food outlets were shut down, 63 establishments were fined a total of Rs1.8 million, and 25 received warning notices for necessary improvements.
During the inspections, enforcement teams seized 205 kg of unhygienic meat and 49 kg of expired food items. DG Asim Javaid emphasized that the authority is committed to taking action against food points that fail to maintain hygienic conditions, store expired products, or improperly store dairy and meat together.
He reminded food business operators (FBOs) in service areas that they are only permitted to sell imported and local products with prior approval from the relevant authority.
Furthermore, he warned food outlets along Motorways M1, M2, and M3 to uphold high food quality standards or face strict penalties.
As a precautionary measure, the DG advised commuters to verify food quality before making purchases and to report any concerns via the PFA helpline at 1223.
