ISLAMABAD, JULY 18: Two new Honda patents raise the possibility that the company is developing a new, boxy, off-road vehicle. A patent depicts a squared-off SUV that was manufactured between 2003 and 2011 and was modeled off the Honda Element. The second patent shows a small pickup truck with a detachable section.

Honda Element featured a distinctive design that was ahead of its time. It was recognized for its upright stance and substantial plastic bodywork. Despite being limited to production from 2003 to 2011, the Element has garnered a devoted fan base.

There may be a chance to bring the Element back because to the popularity of electric drivetrains. Honda may have addressed this risk with its recent patents, which were submitted to the USPTO in December 2022 and published on June 27, 2023.

Notable in particular is the boxy SUV linked to the camper that has a lot of ground clearance. Reminiscent of the Element’s coach doors are the rectangular shape and door arrangement, which feature a smaller rear door opening across from the front door.

The second patent describes a small pickup vehicle with an adjustable cargo divider that might go up against the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick. The bed’s length may be adjusted by adjusting the divider’s two locations, and when the partition is fully back, the roof can be extended to create additional inside room. This vehicle features a distinctive A-pillar design and a rough, blocky look, even though it doesn’t directly reference the Element.

Hold Your Breath Not At All
These patents have some interesting designs, but it’s unlikely that they’ll be produced. Patents are frequently filed by automakers for ideas that are never put to market. It is still possible, though, that Honda is thinking about producing a new Element or something comparable.
