Islamabad, Oct 1: 3 policemen killed in Iran, Jaish al-Adl claims responsibility for two of the attacks
At least three police officers were killed in separate incidents involving militants and gunmen in Iran’s southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan province, according to state media on Monday.
Sistan-Baluchistan, one of Iran’s most impoverished areas, has faced ongoing violence linked to drug smuggling, Baloch insurgents, and extremist elements.
The IRNA news agency reported that a border guard was fatally shot during a confrontation with gunmen in Hirmand.3 policemen killed in Iran
Another attack in the same region resulted in the death of one more border guard, while two others were injured. Additionally, a special forces police officer was killed in the town of Khash, also in Sistan-Baluchistan.
The Pakistan-based militant group Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility for the last two attacks through a Telegram message.
This group has been behind several recent assaults, including a Sunday attack that killed a police officer in the same region.
In a separate development, two men were publicly executed by Iranian authorities on Monday for killing a police officer during an armed robbery in Khomein, central Markazi province, according to Mizan Online. Public executions are uncommon in Iran, where executions are typically carried out by hanging.
Iran has the second-highest execution rate in the world after China, with capital punishment applied to serious crimes such as murder, drug trafficking, and sexual offenses. Human rights organizations like Amnesty International have condemned the high number of executions in the country.
