Islamabad, 19 Apr, 2025: Earthquake Jolts Punjab once again as tremors were felt across various regions, sending waves of concern through the population.

A 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake struck several urban and rural centers including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujrat, causing buildings to shake and residents to rush out into open spaces.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, the seismic event originated near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, with a depth of 94 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.

The 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake created a ripple effect that reached numerous towns and cities across Punjab, sparking immediate response efforts by provincial authorities.

Earthquake Jolts Punjab just as the province continues to focus on natural disaster preparedness.

In the aftermath of the tremors, the PDMA spokesperson confirmed that field teams across the affected areas were dispatched to inspect infrastructure integrity, particularly high-rise buildings, schools, and hospitals.

The Director General of PDMA stated that all necessary equipment and personnel have been mobilized and remain on high alert to manage potential aftershocks or emergency situations that may arise in the coming hours.

The Provincial Control Room and all District Emergency Operation Centers (DEOCs) have been activated for round-the-clock monitoring.

Citizens who have experienced any structural damage or witnessed incidents as a result of the earthquake are strongly encouraged to report the same by calling the PDMA’s 24/7 helpline 1129.

This centralized reporting system has been designed to ensure that relief and recovery operations are swift and accurate.

As part of the PDMA’s standard operating procedures, emergency drills are being reinitiated in high-risk zones, with a focus on community awareness, evacuation planning, and early warning systems to mitigate risks associated with future quakes.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes are unpredictable, but preparedness and proactive governance can minimize the destruction they bring.
