Islamabad, Oct 25: 60 Universities Operating Without Permanent VCs or Rectors. According to a recent government report, there is a serious leadership void in Pakistan’s higher education system, with 60 universities functioning without permanent rectors or vice-chancellors.
Concerns regarding governance and educational quality are raised by the fact that, of 157 universities, only 97 have selected permanent heads, according to the report, which gives an overview of the current status of academic administration.
The research claims that 57 universities are using rectors or vice chancellors in acting or temporary capacities. Three institutions are allegedly functioning completely without a vice chancellor, which is concerning.
Three institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa still lack appointed administrators, indicating a regional difficulty in sustaining efficient academic management.
In the nation’s capital, where six universities are run by acting vice chancellors, the situation is no better. With 22 universities without permanent leadership, Punjab is experiencing the worst situation.
19 universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, five in Balochistan, and four in Sindh are also impacted by the lack of permanent vice-chancellors. In addition, one institution in Azad Jammu and Kashmir does not have a vice chancellor on staff.
Concern over the ramifications of this leadership crisis is developing among education experts. Lack of steady and reliable leadership can interfere with decision-making, raise academic standards, and ultimately affect students’ educational experiences.
