Islamabad, Jan 12: According to a report by leading cybersecurity firm Kaspersky, 61% of Pakistani businesses consider data protection as the most critical concern for IT security. This aligns with global trends, as 33% of companies worldwide also identified data protection as a major issue.
The Kaspersky IT Security Economics Report highlights that companies, both globally and in Pakistan, are increasingly concerned with the loss of productivity, securing complex tech environments, and ensuring data protection. This growing concern stems from the rising need for robust IT security frameworks due to the escalation of security challenges.
In Pakistan, businesses also face issues such as difficulties in business process outsourcing. The report notes that downtime and lost productivity are among the most pressing business problems caused by ineffective IT security, with 20% of Pakistani companies highlighting these as significant issues. Globally, 38% of companies share this concern, largely driven by delays in detecting and addressing security threats.
Other concerns mentioned by 19% of Pakistani organizations include problems with business process outsourcing, while 33% globally and 9% in Pakistan worry about securing complex tech environments and ensuring data connectivity.
Key Findings from the Report:
- Loss of Devices & Data Leakage: Both external and internal factors contribute to regular incidents of device loss and data leakage from corporate systems.
- Rising Non-Computing Device Incidents: An increasing number of cybersecurity incidents involve devices that are not directly linked to computing systems.
- Cybersecurity Solutions’ Mismanagement: Incorrect operation of cybersecurity solutions leaves organizational systems exposed.
Alexey Vovk, Information Security Director at Kaspersky, stressed the importance of a comprehensive, systematic approach to information security, rather than relying on individual point-specific measures. He highlighted that modern attackers no longer rely solely on zero-day exploits—simple actions like clicking on a malicious link or vulnerabilities in contractors’ infrastructures can lead to devastating consequences.
This report underscores the urgency for businesses to strengthen their cybersecurity measures and adopt more comprehensive protection strategies to safeguard their operations from potential breaches.
