Islamabad, Aug 22: President Asif Ali Zardari was briefed by Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Yong Ye on Thursday’s call regarding the bank’s contribution to Pakistan’s socioeconomic development, according to ARY News.

President Zardari expressed at the meeting his gratitude to the Asian Development Bank for helping Pakistan during the floods. He also outlined Pakistan’s efforts to combat climate change, pointing out that the country had millions of acres dedicated to the planting of mangrove forests.The assistance that the Asian Development Bank provided to Pakistan in the areas of irrigation, education, and agriculture was also noted by President Zardari.

Separately, President Zardari received a farewell call from Konstantinos Moatsos, the departing Greek ambassador to Pakistan.President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan and Greece’s bilateral ties must be further strengthened. The president also sent his best wishes to Konstantinos Moatsos, the Greek ambassador in exiting office.

President Zardari has already called on the federal government to lower power prices for the majority of people.On Independence Day, President Asif Zardari encouraged the federal government to break good news to the country by cutting electricity costs.

According to him, the public cannot afford the present electricity costs. The president underlined, “The people’s burden of electricity bills cannot be increased any further.” He asked the federal and provincial governments to create a plan for this alleviation and recommended that the public be given immediate relief by having their electricity rates lowered.
