After nearly 15 years, Constitution Avenue will once again accommodate private public transport, thanks to a new route introduced by the capital administration to benefit both the public and government officials.
Officials explained that since the creation of the capital’s Red Zone in 2007, Constitution Avenue had been closed to public transport (wagons), though cabs were still allowed. This restriction created difficulties for government employees working along the avenue.
Although the Metro Bus service offered some relief for those commuting to the Secretariat, the lack of public transport along the entire Constitution Avenue continued to present challenges.
The Route No. 42 wagon is set to operate from Serena Hotel to Kohsar Chowk, covering key landmarks such as the Foreign Office, High Court, Election Commission, Parliament House, PTV, Marriott Hotel picket, and Kohsar Chowk.
DC Memon emphasized that all vehicles traveling this route will undergo thorough searches and scans before entering the Red Zone. These vehicles will be restricted to operating solely within Constitution Avenue throughout the day. Furthermore, the credentials of drivers and conductors will be authenticated by the relevant department.
