Islamabad, Aug 25: Famous Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz’s enduring legacy was honored on Sunday, the 16th anniversary of his passing, as admirers and fellow poets paid moving tribute to his enormous contribution to literature via various media platforms.

PTV news channel said that while the literary community laments the passing of this creative talent, his followers are honoring his legacy and remembering how his stirring and potent poetry influenced Urdu language.

On January 12, 1931, Ahmad Faraz was born in Kohat. Syed Ahmad Shah was Ahmad Faraz’s true name. He began his work with Radio Pakistan Peshawar as a scriptwriter before becoming a lecturer at Peshawar University.

Among his literary works are Tanha, Be-away Gali Kuchon mian, Sab Awazain meri hai, and Shab-e-Khoon. He belonged to the movement of progressive writers.Numerous national and international honors, including as the Nigar Award, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and Hilal-e-Imtiaz, were bestowed upon the renowned Urdu poet. On this day in 2008, Ahmed Faraz passed away from renal failure and was laid to rest in Islamabad.
