Islamabad, Dec 18: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is gaining international recognition for its digitalization efforts, which have helped expand its global reach. The university now offers 60 educational programs for international students, in addition to catering to Pakistanis living abroad, according to a recent press release.

In the Spring 2024 semester, 1,003 international students from 36 countries enrolled, with 47% male and 53% female students. These countries include Australia, Russia, South Korea, Japan, China, the USA, the UK, Ireland, Canada, France, Spain, Sweden, Greece, Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Turkey, Taiwan, Botswana, South Africa, Iran, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Qatar, Iraq, Kurdistan, Jordan, Oman, and Kuwait.

Currently, admissions are open for the Fall 2024 semester.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood has set an ambitious goal of increasing the number of international students to 50,000 within the next five years. He has tasked Dr. Zahid Majeed, Director of the International Collaboration and Exchange Office, with utilizing all resources to meet this target. In line with the Vice Chancellor’s directive, the office has stepped up its enrollment campaign, partnering with Pakistani embassies and high commissions worldwide to attract more students.
