Islamabad, Oct 5: Air Hostesses Caught Smuggling Smartphones Worth Rs. 11 Million at Karachi Airport
Lahore airport customs officials conducted two significant operations on Friday, seizing millions of rupees worth of mobile phones from a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) air hostess and two passengers.
Nadia Batool, a PIA air hostess, was found with 30 iPhones valued at over Rs 11.2 million, which were hidden on her person and in her belongings.
Additionally, passengers Muhammad Arshad and Fariha Amin were discovered with mobile phones worth Rs 5.5 million in their luggage.
All three individuals were arrested, and a case has been registered against them. In response to the incident, PIA has suspended the crew members of flight PK-204 from Dubai to Lahore as part of its operation targeting air hostesses.
A spokesperson for PIA confirmed the airline’s commitment to upholding strict policies against employee misconduct, stating that any employee breaking the law will face severe consequences.
This incident follows a previous operation where customs authorities seized over two dozen iPhones from a man arriving at Islamabad Airport. Among the confiscated devices was the newly launched iPhone 16 Pro Max, valued at over Rs. 500,000 in Pakistan.
