Islamabad, Oct 9: Ambassador of Ireland to Pakistan Holds Meeting with HEC Chairman. Mary O’Neill, the Irish ambassador to Pakistan, met Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, the chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) during a visit to Islamabad on Tuesday. A delegation comprising officials from Dublin City University, University College Dublin, and the National University of Ireland followed her.

The purpose of the meeting was to investigate prospects for ongoing cooperation in the field of higher education between the two nations. The first resident Irish ambassador to Pakistan, Ambassador O’Neill, gave the Chairman an update on the establishment of the country’s first Irish embassy and thanked the Pakistani community in Ireland for its efforts, especially in the fields of social services and medicine.

The Chairman reiterated HEC’s commitment to fortifying academic ties with Ireland, focusing on the acknowledgment of credentials, faculty and student mobility, establishment of scholarship opportunities for Pakistani students, and cooperation in cooperative research initiatives tackling common issues such as artificial intelligence, water conservation, food security, and climate change. The Chairman was complimented by the Ambassador for his commitment to promoting scientific and educational collaboration between Pakistan and Ireland.

The Ambassador thanked the Chairman for his support and dedication to advancing educational and scientific cooperation between Pakistan and Ireland.

The Ambassador of Turkmenistan welcomed Ambassador Mary O’Neill to Islamabad and felicitated her on her appointment.Both sides took this opportunity to discuss the political and economic situation in the region.

Turkmen Ambassador briefed Mrs. Mary O’Neill about the important regional energy projects. The Ambassador of Ireland, for her part, highly appreciated the initiatives of Turkmenistan’s leadership on the implementation of projects, which would make a significant contribution to the economic development and prosperity in the region.
