Islamabad, Dec 23: Apple is planning to make a significant entry into the smart home market with a new Face ID-enabled smart doorbell, slated for launch in late 2025. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device will feature advanced technology like Face ID for automatic user recognition and door unlocking. This innovation could position Apple as a serious competitor to established players like Amazon’s Ring and Google Nest.

Key Features of the Smart Doorbell:

  1. Face ID Integration: The smart doorbell will leverage Face ID technology, using a proprietary wireless networking chip called Proxima for on-device processing of facial recognition data. This ensures that all images related to Face ID are processed locally, enhancing privacy and security.
  2. iCloud Backup: To provide secure storage of footage, the doorbell will offer iCloud backup. This feature is likely to encourage users to opt for subscription plans, boosting Apple’s recurring revenue.
  3. Smart Home Integration: Although details are still unclear, the device may either work with Apple’s own smart lock system or be compatible with third-party HomeKit-compatible smart locks. Additionally, it will support the Thread smart home standard, helping to strengthen Apple’s broader smart home ecosystem.

Expansion of Apple’s Smart Home Offerings:

In addition to the smart doorbell, Apple is working on a smart home hub that will compete with Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Hub. This hub is expected to feature:

  • A 6-inch touchscreen for control over smart home devices.
  • Apple Intelligence for smart home controls and FaceTime support, which could integrate well with Apple’s existing ecosystem.

Upcoming Updates:

Apple is also preparing to update its Apple TV and HomePod Mini devices in the near future. These updates will likely enhance the compatibility and integration of Apple’s devices within the smart home market.

Overall, these developments signal Apple’s growing commitment to expanding its presence in the smart home sector, aiming for deeper integration across its devices and services.
