LAHORE: Atlas Honda, Pakistan’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, will launch its first electric bike in June 2025. Industry insiders believe this move could significantly impact the country’s growing electric vehicle (EV) sector.
A Bold Step Toward Electric Mobility
Atlas Honda dominates 85% of Pakistan’s motorcycle market and exports bikes to several countries. Now, the company is shifting towards electric mobility to maintain its leadership. Despite challenges like high costs, limited charging stations, and consumer hesitation, the new electric bike could accelerate EV adoption.

Government incentives, such as reduced EV taxes, have yet to boost sales. In 2024, electric motorcycles made up less than 1% of total sales. However, Atlas Honda’s strong local production network and trusted reputation may encourage more buyers.
Local Production for Better Market Fit
Unlike many EV brands that import parts, Atlas Honda produces 95% of its components locally. The company’s in-house R&D team is developing the electric bike to suit Pakistan’s roads and weather conditions.
The global electric two-wheeler market is booming, especially in India and China, where affordable pricing and government subsidies fuel demand. Pakistan still lags in EV adoption, but Atlas Honda’s entry could change that. Experts warn that brands importing pre-assembled electric bikes may struggle as battery technology advances.

Sources suggest that the upcoming Atlas Honda electric bike will offer:

Atlas Honda plans to produce 25,000 units in the first phase. After that, the company expects to manufacture 8,000 units annually. This careful rollout shows optimism while considering market challenges.
