Islamabad, Oct 14: Audit Exposes Major Financial Irregularities in Greater Iqbal Park Construction
The Punjab Assembly was provided with an audit report that revealed serious financial mismanagement during the building of Greater Iqbal Park.
The audit raised questions about project management procedures since it found that over Rs. 21.98 million had been spent on needless expenses.
Additionally, it was discovered that the National History Museum had given workers Rs. 107 million without the necessary paperwork, exposing major problems with salary transparency.
A badly managed contract with the National Museum resulted in a loss of Rs. 106.4 million for the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), which is also being investigated.
The audit also shows that records of expenses surpassing Rs 80 million were missing, which made it more difficult to determine how the money was allocated correctly. It has been revealed that expenditures above Rs 10 million were made in violation of the park’s opening requirements.
One of the most concerning discoveries is that park management improperly paid over Rs. 205 million in advance to private companies without the required authorizations or paperwork.
Public outcry over these revelations has prompted extensive investigations and accountability. The Punjabi government is under growing pressure to resolve the project’s financial issues.
