Islamabad, Oct 14: Australia Announces Squad for Pakistan ODI Series

A number of important players are back for Australia’s 14-man team for the forthcoming series against Pakistan.

Australia will need to win this series in order to be ready for the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan the following year. Pat Cummins (captain), Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa are the Australian team members for the series.

Pat Cummins, the captain of the team, will play in his first 50-over match for Australia since they defeated India in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final the previous year. Marcus Stoinis, an accomplished all-rounder who returns to the team, joins Cummins.

The team is led by Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, and other solid white-ball regulars.

Top-order hitters Travis Head and Mitch Marsh, who are both on paternity leave, won’t be available for the club. Younger players like Cooper Connolly and Jake Fraser-McGurk, who have kept their spots in the team, have an opportunity to step up in their absence. Aaron Hardie, an all-round player who made an impression against England last month, is also scheduled to play for his country again.

The absence of all-rounder Cameron Green from the team is noteworthy as he has been out for up to six months with a back issue. With his potential and recent output, Green’s absence is a loss for the squad.

The series against Pakistan will consist of three ODIs, with matches scheduled as follows:

  • First ODI: November 4 in Melbourne
  • Second ODI: November 8 in Adelaide
  • Third ODI: November 10 in Perth
