In a recent press conference ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming four-match T20I series against England Babar responding to queries about his return as Pakistan captain revealed his motivations.
“To be honest I returned as the captain because of the World Cup” he stated.
“In the past we’ve made it to the semi-finals and finall but this time I see a real opportunity to clinch the World Cup.”
Highlighting the team’s strengths he said We have a talented bunch of players, a strong batting lineup and our bowling has received a boost with Amir’s return. With the likes of Shaheen, Haris, and Naseem, our fast bowling department looks solid. So we have a golden opportunity to lift the World Cup.
Babar elaborated on the team’s strategy confirming that Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan will continue to open the innings with himself batting at one down.
In the Ireland series, we didn’t experiment much. We stuck with the lineup we envision for the World Cup he explained.
We’ve almost finalized our batting and bowling combination. While we may make minor adjustments based on conditions or requirements, I’ll mostly be batting at one down.
Regarding Haris Rauf’s fitness Babar assured. We’ve got the green light for Haris Rauf. He’s fully fit and available for this series.
The four-match T20I series between Pakistan and England slated from May 22 to 30 serves as crucial preparation for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 with the previous edition’s finalists using these contests as practice for the big event that will take place soon.
