Salma Paralluelo and Marta Torrejón came closest, but the hosts’ defence stood firm, keeping chances to a minimum.

The breakthrough finally came after the break. Claudia Pina delivered a pinpoint corner, which was flicked on by Patri and met by Marta Torrejón’s powerful header to give Barcelona the lead. Despite the goal, the visitors still found it tough to extend their advantage.

Substitute Ewa Pajor struck the post, while Levante’s goalkeeper denied several promising efforts.
