Islamabad, Oct 21: BCCI Turns Down Latest Proposal for Champions Trophy. Another plan that would have sent India’s cricket squad to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy the following year was apparently turned down by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
As worries over India’s prolonged stay in Pakistan during the tournament persist, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) apparently suggested an alternative plan to help its neighbors: the Indian cricket team would have returned to Chandigarh or Delhi following each match in Lahore.
A BCCI official has revealed that the board has not received any official contact from the PCB, despite Pakistan’s pledge to provide logistical support for India’s return flights following each match.
The person further underlined that the BCCI would have turned down the offer even if it had been offered, arguing that the Indian government’s order would ultimately determine India’s involvement in Pakistan.
Should everything else fail, the BCCI is probably going to request a hybrid arrangement in which all of its Champions Trophy matches will take place outside of Pakistan. Due to political tensions, the two cricketing titans have only played in ICC competitions and have not played a bilateral series here since India’s 2008 trip to Pakistan.
From February 19 to March 9, 2025, the Trophy will be held in three locations in Pakistan: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. All parties involved are still concerned about India’s involvement, though. The dates of the 2025 Champions Trophy matches for India are set for February 20, 23, and March 2.
