Islamabad, April 5, 2025: Ben Sears has made a significant mark in cricket , following up his maiden five-wicket haul against Pakistan in Hamilton with another remarkable performance. 

This achievement makes him the first New Zealand bowler to claim consecutive five-wicket hauls in ODIs, solidifying his reputation at the highest level of the game.

Sears, who was introduced as a first-change bowler in the ninth over, started his spell by maintaining tight control over the run rate.

With the Men in Green at 72/0 after 16 overs, they had made an unusual solid start in a rain-affected match at the Bay Oval.

However, it was 27-year-old pacer who broke the partnership, dismissing Abdullah Shafique in the final over of his first spell.

Sears struck again in his second spell, dismissing Agha Salman, and with Pakistan needing 55 runs from five overs and just four wickets remaining.

In just 12 balls, Sears dismissed Naseem,  Waseem, and Sufiqan, bowling Pakistan out for 221 and finishing with career-best figures of 9-0-34-5.

Ben Sears is the son of former Wellington cricketer Michael Sears.

Ben followed the cricketing footsteps family, with his uncle Darren also playing lower-grade representative cricket in New Zealand.

Known for his express pace, Sears made his T20I debut in 2021 against Bangladesh. His Test debut came a year later, after an injury to Matt Henry.

Though he had a quiet start to his ODI career, Sears made an explosive comeback, claiming 10 wickets in the recent three-match series against Pakistan.

His stellar performances earned him the Player of the Series award, further boosting his standing in international cricket.

Given his current form, he is likely to earn a place in New Zealand’s squads for upcoming tours, including their July visit to Zimbabwe.
