Islamabad, Nov 16: Boosting Trade & Investment Pakistan’s Envoy to US Meets Chamber Chief

Mark Jaffe, the President and CEO of the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, met with Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, to discuss ways to enhance trade and investment ties between New York and Pakistan.

The conversation centered on key industries such as textiles, leather, surgical goods, and IT, with Jaffe expressing a strong desire to promote these sectors.

Jaffe outlined the Chamber’s plans to foster trade with Pakistan and committed to sharing details about upcoming trade events with its vast network.

In return, Ambassador Sheikh expressed gratitude for Jaffe’s support during the 5th International Textile and Leather Exhibition (TEXPO) 2024 in Karachi and invited the Chamber to participate in the 4th Engineering & Healthcare Show in Lahore scheduled for April 2025.

The Ambassador also highlighted the important role of Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in driving investment and pointed to the country’s favorable investment environment, strategic geographic location, and preferential trade agreements like the GSP+ status with the EU and a Free Trade Agreement with China. Both parties agreed to enhance collaboration to further develop bilateral trade.

In a separate session, Ambassador Sheikh met with New York-based business leaders, IT professionals, and investment bankers to discuss investment opportunities in sectors such as IT, agriculture, mining, and tourism. Attendees expressed interest in exploring opportunities in Pakistan but also mentioned the challenges they encounter in the region.

The Ambassador reassured them that the Embassy and Consulate would offer continued support in connecting them with relevant partners in Pakistan.

Additionally, Ambassador Sheikh engaged with Pakistani-origin students in New York, urging them to excel in their studies and actively contribute to improving Pakistan’s image globally.

The gathering concluded with a collective commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties and advancing Pakistan’s influence on the world stage.
